Professor John Evans Atta Mills who died in office as Ghana’s President this afternoon was felled by cardiac arrest, it has been disclosed.
A report from Ghana also disclosed that Prof. Mills had a history of throat cancer for which e had been seeking a cure.
Transport & Business Express reports that Prof. Mills was especially close to controversial Nigerian Pastor T. B. Joshua of Synagogue of All Nations. Mills credited Joshua, who claims to be a miracle healer, as predicting that he would win Ghana’s 2009 presidential election – which came to pass. It is not clear if he hoped to receive a miraculous cure from Joshua.
A statement from the office of President signed by Mr. John Henry Martey and released by the Ministry of Information announced that Prof. Mills died at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra, the Ghanaian capital. It did not give an idea of the cause of death,
Mills, 68, took office on January 7, 2009 after defeating the ruling party candidate Nana Akufo-Addo in the 2008 election.
Vice President John Dramani Mahama has been sworn-in as the new President.
