Acting Gov. Samaila Yombe of Kebbi has directed the immediate payment of July 2015 salaries of local government employees in the state.
Yombe also directed that payment of salaries for August should be completed on Monday, Aug. 24.
The acting governor gave the directive when he spoke with newsmen after an Emergency Meeting with officials of the state chapter of Nigeria Labour Congress in Birnin Kebbi on Friday.
He said the delay in the payment was unfortunate and condemned the conduct of local government payment departments over the delay.
He also decried,“the indiscriminate under- payment of some staff by the payment departments.
“Government will not hesitate to deal with officials who engage in short-changing innocent workers of their hard earned monthly take home pay.
“This present administration will not condone mismanagement, corruption or manipulation of payment of wages because workers welfare is of paramount importance to the government.”
He explained that the ongoing staff verification was aimed at ensuring sanity, probity and accountability in the civil service.
Yombe assured that justice and fair play would be the guide in attending to staff matters. (NAN)
