Okowa preaches to Christians at funeral service

Delta State Governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, has said funeral service was time for the living to reflect on their life style and live according to the word of God.

Speaking yesterday at the funeral service for late Mrs Mary Orogun (Née Esejuvwevwo) at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Orhoakpor, Ethiope East Local Government Area, Delta State, Governor Okowa said: “We must give ourselves to God, that is the lesson we must learn in every burial ceremony.”

Late Mrs Orogun who died at the age of 94 was the mother of former Commissioner for Finance in Delta State, Chief George Orogun.

“One thing I tell people is that whenever you come to burial ceremony, always think about yourself, the one who is gone, is gone, the sermon is for the living but the greatest sermon is realising that one day, we will lie in a casket,” Okowa said.

He added: “You must live rightly while you are on earth and you must ensure that you do good to your fellow man, even when you reverence God.”

Governor Okowa, who was accompanied to the funeral service by his wife, Edith, Senator James Manager, Hon. Victor Nwokolo and other top government functionaries, reiterated: “My brothers and sisters, let us reflect on our lives and be sure that we are living a good life because, you never know when death will come.”

He observed that the deceased lived a good life and consoled the family she left behind, especially, Chief George Orogun whom he described as a “very good friend.”

Earlier in a sermon, Revd, Canon Dominic Jiroro urged Christians to always have faith in God because, “faith open doors, believe in Jesus Christ at all times.”

In a related development, Governor Okowa yesterday attended the burial ceremony of Pa Erasmus Okwube, father of Mr Benjamin Okwube, managing director of Benco Pools Limited at Boji Boji, Owa.
