Caucus of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the House of Representatives, yesterday, frowned at the decision of President Muhammadu Buhari to probe only the just concluded administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.
The caucus described it as a selective process in fighting corruption, saying that all the previous administrations must be investigated and, if found to be corrupt, be also prosecuted by APC-led Federal Government.
Chairman of the Media and Publicity Sub-Committee of the caucus, Honourable Rima Shawulu Pemu, disclosed this while speaking with some journalists in Abuja.
He however gave the assurance that the ruling party would be supported by PDP in any anti-corruption move by President Buhari. His words: “PDP would support the APC government’s anti-corruption stance for the overall development of the country.”
He added that “the decision of President Buhari to restrict his probe to only Dr Goodluck Jonathan-led administration, rather than all previous administrations in Nigeria, offends a section and letter of the constitution.
“Our position as a party is that the president, who was elected by Nigerians, has no power to be selective in the war against corruption.”
The caucus noted that “government is a continuum and that crime, no matter how long it was committed, remains a crime, unless the culprit has been apprehended and prosecuted in accordance with the law.”
The spokesperson also pointed out that the Port Harcourt, Kaduna and Warri refineries, out of four federally-owned refineries that are now working were due to the Turn Around Maintenance (TAM) initiated on these facilities by the Goodluck Jonathan-led administration.
