Nigeria’s contingent to the 2015 Special Olympics in the United States of America put up a superlative performance, carting home a total number of 71 medals.
An update this morning by Mrs. Angela Emuwa, who was on hand to watch her son Chidubem Emuwa claim gold in the circling event, indicated that Team Nigeria finished the Games with 36 Gold, 26 Silver and 9 Bronze medals.
“Bearing in mind that 10 gold and 10 silver went to each individual member of the football and basketball teams, Team Nigeria athletes are coming home with 71 medals!!! SEVENTY-ONE MEDALS!!!” Mrs. Emuwa, a Director of The PUNCH Newspapers, Lagos, screamed on her Facebook wall. “This just shows what people living with disabilities can achieve if given the opportunity. They must be given equal opportunities like everyone else. It’s their right,” she added.
She listed individual medalists in the Games held in Atlanta Georgia to include Adedamola Roberts – Gold 100M Freestyle; Olatunji Adebiyi – Silver 100M Freestyle; Tejumola Ogunlela – Silver 100M Freestyle; Chidubem Emuwa – Gold Cycling; Sikiru Sodiq – Silver Shotput; Muraina Rasaq – Gold Badminton
Jeffrey Olu-Imaferame – Gold Badminton; Victoria White – Gold Table Tennis.
