Aggrieved workers of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have called for the resignation of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) because of an alleged mismanagement of the party’s resources.
The Secretary of the party’s Staff Welfare Unit, Dan Ochu-Baiye, told journalists at a press conference in Abuja that the party’s National Working Committee squandered the sum of 12 billion naira realized during the electioneering period.
They also accused the NWC of diverting the party’s funds to a private account named “Morufi Nigeria Limited.”
The workers are also protesting against a circular from the National Working Committee asking the workers to get new recommendation letters from their states and local government chairmen.
The PDP National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Olisa Metuh, has, however, refuted the allegations. He said that they were untrue.
Since the conclusion of the general elections in April 2015, the Peoples Democratic Party has tried hard to put its house in order.
The National Working Committee, at several briefings in the past, has told journalists that they were working toward restructuring the party.
Having lost out during the presidential elections to the All Progressives Congress (APC), the party’s leadership has consistently said that they were repositioning to bounce back in 2019. (Channels TV)
