Boycott mars Anambra PDP Ward Congress

A group of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members in Anambra State, led by the governorship candidate of the party in 2013, Comrade Tony Nwoye, have boycotted the Ward Congress of the party, alleging its non-conformity with the party’s constitution.

The congress witnessed a large turnout of party faithful who still expressed satisfaction at the exercise, as the Group maintained that it was ill-timed, ill-arranged and ill-publicised.

They also accused the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Mr Olisa Metuh, of interference, thus going against the party and the electoral act.

The group made their demands on the immediate postponement of the election as they boycotted the exercise.

Other stakeholders pointed out that impunity had cost them firm grip on power in the state, also resolving to fight disunity, impunity and imposition of candidates.

Against all odds, the congress was conducted in various wards in the state to monitor the election of 15 ward officers in each ward, and three delegates for the State Congress that will take place on Saturday.

The election was first held in Anambra Central Senatorial Zone, Awka Ward 7, where the Chairman and members of Anambra State PDP congress committee pepped up the function which boosted the confidence of the party members.

At Nnewi North where the 10 wards in the area gathered for the exercise, the Congress Committee Chairman tasked party members on the unity of the party as the only panacea to a better future for the party.

He fielded questions from Journalists on the controversy and dissatisfaction following the exercise, and cited a peace and reconciliation committee set up to handle grievances which will sit in Awka.

Rounding off with Anambra North Senatorial Zone at Nteje, headquarters of Oyi Local Government, many still lauded the exercise for the leader of the party in the ward.

However, the congress witnessed a large turnout of party faithful who still expressed satisfaction at the exercise. (Channels TV)
