Indications that the crisis rocking the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have emerged in the nation’s capital, Abuja, with the party’s National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and former Interim National Chairman, Chief Bisi Akande, conspicuously missing from the meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) which is ongoing at the party’s secretariat. Tinubu and Akande were prime movers of the defunct All Progressives Congress (ACN), one of the main pillars of APC.
“Present at the meeting are the President, Muhammadu Buhari, Senate President, Bukola Saraki, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara. Others in attendance include the members of the National Working Committee of the party, the 22 APC Governors, APC State Chairmen and representatives from the zones,” says a Channels TV report.
“The crisis rocking the ruling party, especially as it affects the National Assembly leadership, is expected to top the agenda of the NEC meeting,” the report adds.
It says the constitution of the party’s board of trustees, as approved by the National Working Committee, may also be discussed by the APC leaders.
This is the first NEC meeting of the party since President Buhari took the oath of office on May 29.
“It is believed that compromises will be made by the parties involved in the dispute over the sharing of principal offices in both the Senate and House of Representatives,” the report says, adding:
“Two groups of APC lawmakers in the Senate and the House of Representatives had selected their principle officers in defiance of the party’s position, prompting a row that has pitched the lawmakers against the leadership of the APC.”
