Ikpeazu orders bulldozers to Aba, flags off road rehabilitation

Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, today flagged-off the construction of seven major roads in Aba, the commercial nerve centre of the state, as part of his administration’s efforts to give the city a face-lift.

The roads, which Ikpeazu promised to rehabilitate in his first 100 days in office, are Umuocham, Old Express, Ukaegbu, Ehere, Umuola, Kamalu and Faulks by Ariara.

Flagging-off the project, Dr. Ikpeazu assured that quality job would be done on the roads, in addition to installing street lights along the roads.

He said that work would progress simultaneously on all the roads, adding that even though work has been done on some of the roads without much success in the past, quality, durable work will be done this time around.

The governor stated that completion of Kamalu Road, which will link Okpulo Umuobu in Osisioma LGA, will ease traffic in Aba. He charged those who have makeshift buildings along the roads where construction would be carried out to remove such attachments immediately to quicken the pace of work.

Dr. Ikpeazu assured that contractors who deliver quality job would be awarded more contracts.

Earlier in his speech, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works, Mr. Richard Nwala, said his ministry would ensure accelerated supervision of construction work on the roads. He assured that the ministry would not compromise quality.

Conducting the governor round, the contractors promised to deliver good jobs at record time.

News Express reports that prior to his inauguration last Friday, May 29, Ikpeazu had assured Aba residents that he would kick start rebuilding of roads in the city with effect from June 1.
