Anambra: New Information Commissioner seeks media aid in projecting govt programmes

The Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Dr Uju Nwogu, has solicited the assistance of the media in the projection of Governor Willie Obiano’s programmes and infrastructural development in the state, to enable people at the grassroots level appreciate government activities.

In her interaction with journalists in Awka, Nwogu, who was among the five new commissioners sworn in by the governor last week, said that government was already doing a lot in various parts of the state, adding that the people need to know about these activities through the media. She noted that the governor has shown – through the projects being executed in various parts of the state – his zeal to uplift the welfare of workers in the state.

“The media should support him to do more. The interest of the governor is to make Anambra State the best in the country. And, he has realised that he needs to win the confidence of the people to be able to actualise his programmes. He does not joke with the welfare of workers; that is why he has already paid the May 2015 workers’ salaries, when many states were complaining of their inability to pay April salaries. That is where the assistance of the media is needed, because the people need to know the truth about their government," she said.

The commissioner listed some of the ongoing projects in the state. They include the massive investments in agriculture, tourism, commerce, and oil and gas.

She promised to look into the problems of state-owned media outfits so as to prepare them for the impending digitalisation in the industry.
