Mu’Azu leads PDP National Working Committee to Orji over Abia supplementary guber poll

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Alh. Adamu Mu’Azu, and other members of the National Working Committee of the party stormed Umuahia, Abia State capital, Thursday evening and held a closed door meeting with Governor Theodore Orji.

Though details of their meeting were not disclosed to newsmen, it may not be unconnected with strategising for the party's victory in tomorrow's supplementary governorship election.

After the April 11, 2015 governorship polls, the Independent National electoral Commission (INEC) had declared the exercise inconclusive.

However, the PDP candidate, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, was leading with 8353 votes.

Speaking with newsmen, Mu’Azu expressed shock that some highly placed INEC officials in Abia State were allegedly still withholding the results of the April 11governorship elections held in Abia.

He warned that PDP would not allow anyone to rob the party of the success it had achieved.

He expressed surprise that despite the fact that the election was free and fair, the results of the polls were being withheld by INEC officials.

According to him, the PDP should have been declared winner of the April 11th governorship elections, stressing that it was intriguing and confusing that that was not done but rather some highly placed officials of INEC in the state were anxious to cancel the election which was not contentious.

He thanked PDP members in Abia for coming out en masse to vote for the party during the April 11 governorship polls, and charged them to remain resolute in protecting their votes during today’s supplementary election to ensure that their votes were not tampered with until Ikpeazu was declared winner.

Earlier, while receiving Mu’azu and his team, Governor Orji thanked him for finding time to visit the state at this critical and challenging time and reassured him that PDP would achieve victory in today’s supplementary election.

Orji maintained that PDP won the Abia governorship election but found itself in the present condition because of circumstances.

The governor expressed hope that the visit of the national chairman will ginger the state the more to achieve success in the supplementary election in spite of all odds.
