The impressive performance of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Saturday’s governorship polls has continued, with the party toppling the outgoing ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in two more states while holding on tight in its northern strongholds.

In the latest batch of results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), APC took Plateau State, with its candidate, Rt. Hon. Simon Lalong polling a total of 564,913 votes to defeat his closet challenger, Sen. Gyang Pwajok of PDP, who scored 520,627 votes.

Jigawa equally fell to APC, its candidate, Alhaji Badaru Abubakar, polling 648,045 votes to defeat PDP’s Malam Aminu Ringim, who scored 479,447 votes.

Meanwhile, APC easily retained Kano, Borno and Zamfara states.

In Kano, APC’s Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje won in 43 out of the 44 local government areas of the state to trounce Mallam Salihu Sagir Takai of PDP.

In Borno State, Governor Kashim Shettima won 22 of the 27 local government areas in the state to win re-election, beating his closest opponent, Alhaji Gambo Lawan of PDP, with a wide margin.

Similarly, APC’s Governor Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara scored 716,964 votes to beat his main rival – his father in-law, Alhaji Mamuda Shinkafi of PDP, who scored 201,938 votes.

PDP, however, held on to Gombe and Cross River states. In Gombe, Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo secured re-election, winning 285,369 votes to beat his main rival, Alhaji Inuwa Yahaya of APC, who scored 205,132 votes.

And in Cross River, Senator Ben Ayade garnered 342,016 votes to vanquish his man challenger, Mr. Odey Ochicha of APC, who managed to score only 53,983 votes.

The only states where winners are yet to be declared are Abia and Taraba – where announcement of results became stalemated – and Imo, where the ballot was declared inconclusive and supplementary election is expected to hold at a later date.
