Residents turn watchmen as robbers terrorise Iyana Ipaja (Lagos)

Residents of Iyana Ipaja, a Lagos suburb, have been forced to become emergency night watchmen following increasing armed robbery activities in the area.

“Robbers have been terrorising Iyana Ipaja lately and two policemen were said have been killed during robbery operations last week,” said a Transport & Business Express reporter who visited the area.

“The residents have resorted to staying awake at night while some are serving as emergency security men at night as the police appears overwhelmed and unable to protect them. It is not unusual to see them burning tyres at night as a way of warning armed robbers to keep off,” the reporter added.
