The National Chairman of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Victor Umeh, has congratulated the president-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari on his victory at the presidential poll and also commended President Jonathan for conceding to defeat, saying that the gesture showed his statesman attribute.

While observing that Buhari’s victory is a boost to opposition politics in Nigeria, Umeh also wished him well and encouraged him to adopt and implement the recommendations of the National Conference for the good of Nigeria.

Also, the leader of Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA) in Anambra State, Mr. Godwin Ezeemo described Buhari’s victory and the conceding speech made by President Jonathan as a resounding progress in the nation’s democracy.

He said: “The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and President Jonathan have proved to the world that black men have great potentials and capacity to manage their affairs without any external assistance.

“The pronouncement and acceptance by the incumbent president was a great show of patriotism on both sides.

According to him, the aftermath of the Presidential and National Assembly is an indication that Nigeria has recorded a milestone in its democratic process adding that it shows how much Nigerians are developing and maturing politically.

He noted that greater be recorded by the next general election with people of integrity and purpose of action manning the affairs of this great country.

Ezeemo also advocated the adoption of option A4 in the country’s electoral process “because of its transparent nature”, saying that its introduction would curb the open or closed incentive in the electioneering process.

Also, a human rights lawyer and former chairman of Nigeria Bar Association, NBA, Onitsha branch, Mr. Obele Chuka, said General Buhari ran and won as a result of his personal integrity and avowal to restrain Nigeria’s” descent into the cesspool of unrestrained corruption and inept governance.

“Nigerians accepted his offer. It is a healthy development for our democracy and for good governance that this government was massively voted out.

“But Senator Bola Tinubu must get a huge mention in this historical epoch. It took his political astuteness and resilience to midwife a party from his bedroom to forge a coalition that took over power at the centre in less than eight years.

“The ball is now in the General’s court. He must hit the ground running to commence the recovery of our squandered opportunities,” Obele said.

He, however, hailed President Jonathan’sstatesmanship in accepting the outcome of the ballot, even as Professor Attahiru Jega also goes down in glory.
