Following the declaration of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, (PDP) as the winner of Saturday’s Presidential and National Assembly elections in Anambra State, the All Progressive Congress, (APC) has petitioned the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) Attahiru Jega, saying there was no election in the state.
The petitioners, which include the party collation agents and officials of the party in Nnewi North local government area, alleged that INEC officials disappeared with the result sheets after the voting exercise was concluded, thereby denying APC agents the opportunity to monitor the collation.
Addressing journalists at Nnewi, the National Auditor of the party, Chief George Muoghalu said that as far as the party was concerned, there was no election in Anambra State.
He noted that the chieftains of PDP, comprising of government contractors merely decided to write results in favour of the PDP and further compelled INEC to announce it.
“There was no election in Anambra State, so, the issue of whether APC performed poorly in the state or not does not arise. During the exercise, the number of accredited voters in most polling units was not announced.
“Again, voting and accreditation were going on simultaneously after they succeeded in discrediting the card readers which we have found out to be a ploy by PDP to manipulate the election but unfortunately, after the votes were cast, we never set our eyes on PDP and now, they are brandishing results they doctored.
“They do all these with the intent to win at all cost because they control the agencies of government, including the military and the police who always say they receive orders from above,” he said.
Muoghalu further said that at the level of the country’s democratic development, that the people were not given the freedom to make their choice during the elections as the influential people tend to be forcing their will on the electorate.
He pointed out that if Anambra people decided to vote for party A or B in the course of the election, they should not be cajoled to vote otherwise by the powers that be who would rather manipulate the system to their advantage.
The APC National Auditor stressed that the manipulation of the electoral process would only pave way for violence which the country is praying against.
It would be recalled that the member representing, Njikoka/Dunukofia/Anaocha/Idemili N/S Senatorial zone at the senate refused to vote on the day of the elections citing irregularities as his reason.
