President Goodluck Jonathan of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has maintained his lead over his main challenger, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd.) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in results of last Saturday’s presidential election so far declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Results from Ekiti, Ogun, Enugu, Kogi, Osun, Ondo, Oyo and Nasarawa states as well as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) were declared before the collators went on break. Though Buhari has won more states (Ogun, Kogi, Osun, Ondo and Oyo), Jonathan has garnered more votes – a total of 2,322,742, as against 2,302,979, translating into a difference of 19,763 votes in favour of the incumbent.
The collation, taking place at the International Conference Centre, Abuja, and being presided over by INEC Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, resumes at 8pm.
