The victorious Nigerian team to the just-concluded 29th Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is now airborne and heading straight for Abuja, the Nigerian capital, for a reception this evening at the Presidential Villa.
The team and the accompanying delegation are however already celebrating their feat even before touchdown. A photo (seen here) just released by team spokesman Ben Alaiya shows a celebration ongoing inside the Arik Air aircraft conveying the delegation home.
Photo (left to right) shows team skipper, Joseph Yobo, Coach Stephen Keshi, Nigeria Football Federation President, Aminu Maigari, Sports Minister, Bolaji Abdulahi, and former Super Eagles skipper Nwankwo Kanu cutting the celebratory cake aboard Arik Air on the way to Abuja.
It would be recalled that the underrated Super Eagles on Sunday night, February 10, brought their 2013 AFCON campaign to a glorious climax with a lone goal victory over the Stallions of Burkina Faso in the final decided at the National Stadium in Johannesburg.
The feat has made Keshi the first Nigerian coach to win the coveted trophy and the second ever player to win it as a player and as a coach.
