Abia State Governor, Chief Theodore Orji, has been declared winner of the Abia Central Senatorial election conducted yesterday. The governor defeated six other candidates with wide margin.
Announcing the result this night at the Umuahia North Local Government Headquarters, the Senatorial Collation Officer, Dr Innocent Okoro of the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, said that Orji polled 65,653 votes to beat his closest rival, Barrister Ahamdi Nweke of APGA, who scored 46,070 to place second. The APC candidate, Hon. Acho Obioma, place third with 10,204 votes.

The venue for the announcement of the result was under tight security.
In returning the governor as the Senator-elect, the Collation Officer said: “That Theodore Ahamefule Orji of PDP, having satisfied the requirements of the law and having scored the highest number of votes, is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected.”
News Express reports that results for the Isiala Ngwa North and South and Umuahia/Ikwuano Federal constituencies are still being computed.
