World Exclusive: Presidential election may be declared inconclusive

Nigeria’s presidential election held yesterday across the country will likely be declared inconclusive, News Express has learnt.

Though 14 parties fielded candidates for the ballot, results trickling in from various parts of the country indicate that President Goodluck Jonathan of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd.) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have separated themselves from the pack.

An informed source told News Express this morning: “It is still rather early to say who among Buhari and Jonathan will carry the day. It appears that none of them may meet the constitutionally required 25 per cent of the votes in two-third of the 36 states and FCT Abuja. The election may likely be declared inconclusive by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and a re-run ordered between Buhari and Jonathan.”

The source said it was unlikely that the result of the election holding today in areas where the card reader machine failed yesterday may not significantly alter the outcome of the ballot.
