The family of late MKO Abiola has called on Nigerians to vote en masse for the All Progressives Congress, (APC) presidential candidate, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (Retd) in today’s presidential election.
Speaking on behalf of Abiola family, the late business mogul’s younger brother, Chief Muhammed Muritala Olarewaju Abiola, urged Nigerians to embrace the slogan, ‘Change’, and vote out President Goodluck Jonathan.
Justifying the family position, Chief Abiola accused some chieftains of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of having a hand in the death of his elder brother, as well as his wife, Alhaja Kudirat Abiola.
“When they saw that the election was free and fair, they said MKO spent about N100 million to campaign, that the money was too much, which was the reason they gave for the annulment of the election and today they have spent more than N50 billion.
He asked: “Are they going to annul this election for spending too much?”
As the head of Abiola family, I have the mandate of others to declare our support for Buhari.
According to him, “Buhari has been under attack by enemies of progress, but majority of Nigerians love him to return to power”.
While accusing Jonathan of non performance, Abiola said the president has not done anything tangible to deserve a second term in office. “Jonathan has been there for the past six years but what has he done?
“We have no apology to offer anybody for supporting Buhari. He is not only our own choice, but also the choice of millions of other Nigerians. Our son, MKO Abiola paid the supreme sacrifice by laying down his life for democracy to be entrenched in Nigeria, but it is rather unfortunate that democracy has been bastardised under PDP and this is why many people are yearning for change. “I’m only appealing to Nigerians that they should change the government to Progressive Change but not ordinary change because Nigeria must progress.”
