The Director General, Benjamin Uwajumogu Campaign Organisation (BUCO), Chief George Maduewesi (Onapuru-agu), has adduced reasons why the APC Okigwe senatorial candidate and the Speaker, Imo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Uwajumogu, remained the most preferred choice for the representation of Okigwe Senatorial District.
Chief Maduewesi, who was interacting with reporters Wednesday in Okigwe, maintained that it was time for the landmark achievements of the Speaker in almost four years of the present administration in the state, to be replicated in all the nooks and crannies of Okigwe zone, using the constitutional paraphernalia of a senator.
He pointed out that Rt. Hon. Uwajumogu, upon assumption of office as the Speaker of the State Assembly, wasted no time in defying every known conservative political ideology in taking the Okigwe zone back to the mainstream of the state politics, adding that the excellent maturity he displayed during this period, earned the zone various monumental achievements recorded today.
According to him, Okigwe zone is well positioned now than before to tap from the enormous legislative experiences and the needed political clout of the Speaker to reconnect it back to the national grid of attracting meaningful Federal presence, which is obviously lacking in the zone.
The DG emphasised the need for Okigwe people to identify and embrace the needed change, which he said the Speaker represents, stressing that the urgent call for the immediate rescue of the zone has gone far beyond political party affiliation, unsubstantiated zoning sentiments, as well as the unbridled ambitions of some politicians whom he described as moneybags.
Chief Maduewesi, who also added that the zone, which hitherto was a shadow of itself, has formerly been set on a strong developmental pedestals, enunciated by the Speaker, in collaboration with the present administration in the state, pointing out that the Speaker has exceptionally proved politicians in the zone wrong that meaningful economic developments can still function in the zone through the attraction of a campus of the Imo state Polytechnic in Umunakanu, the state College of Education, Ihitte-Uboma, the proposed Claretian University, Umuna, as well as the ultra-modern Malaysian market in Obowo, amongst others.
He further posited that the zone cannot afford to be left out in the present highly competitive Nigerian legislative government, where experience and political sagacity mattered most, while noting that the ranking membership status of the Speaker gives him a positive edge above his contemporaries, whom, he said, would be left to only learn on-the-job before settling down for the real legislative business.
While urging the Okigwe zonal electorates to come out en mass on Saturday to enthrone that visible change which would last for a life-time for the zone by voting for the APC, Chief Maduewesi, he also commended them for their positive responses to the BUCO campaign team during its Ward and local government tours in the area.
He described it as a clear sign that the people were ready for the wind of change, which is currently reverberating across the country.
