Nigeria’s chief strategist Stephen Keshi has handed the starting role to mesmerising forward Victor Moses and has picked Ikechukwu Uche – the country’s third highest scorer of all time –to partner with him in this evening’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final against Burkina Faso in South Africa.
Uche is taking the place of tournament’s joint highest goal scorer Emmanuel Emenike, who has finally been ruled out due to ankle injury.
“Chelsea winger Moses has overcome a left ankle injury he picked up against Mali in Wednesday’s semi-final in Durban and so will be in action from the start,” said a report from Johannesburg, where at the National Stadium in Johannesburg.
Completing the attacking line is Brown Ideye, who registered his name on the goal sheets in the semi-final whitewashing of Mali.
Apart from Uche, Keshi is sticking to the squad that conquered mighty Ivory Coast in the quarter-final before humbling Mali. That means that Lazio youngster Ogenyi Onazi will once more bench Norway-based Fegor Ogude, while Sunday Mba also keeps the midfield position he took from Nosa Igiebor and skipper Joseph Yobo sits on the bench while youngster Kenneth Omeruo gets yet another chance to impress.
The match, which was earlier billed for 7pm Nigerian time, is said to have been moved forward by 30 minutes.
