Jonathan lacks power to implement Confab report-Rep

A member of the House of Representatives, Hon Bimbo Daramola, has said only the National Assembly, not the Presidency, has the power to discuss and approve implementation of the report of the National Conference.

The All Progressives Congress, (APC) lawmaker, seeking reelection in Oye/Ikole Federal Constituency of Ekiti State, said this at Ire Ekiti yesterday during his campaign tour of the federal constituency.

He was reacting to President Goodluck Jonathan’s pledge to implement the National Conference reports during his second term in office.

Daramola maintained that the powers to implement the reports or otherwise resided only in the National Assembly, and not in the Presidency, dscribing the president’s pledge as “mere campaign gimmicks,”

“For anyone to boast to traditional rulers and uninformed voters across various zones of the country that he would implement those reports if re-elected is not only misleading, but also a decoy to gain cheap popularity and undue political sympathy,” he said.

The APC candidate, who enjoined Nigerians and Ekiti electorate not to be deceived, told voters who had collected their Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs, to use them wisely by voting for APC candidates.

While assuring the people that he would do more if re-elected, Daramola said there was no town or village in his constituency that did not benefit from one project or the other in his first term in office.
