Police AIG Wilfred Eje Obute dies suddenly at 59



The Nigeria Police Force has announced the sudden death of AIG Wilfred Eje Obute. A statement issued this afternoon in Abuja by Force Public Relations Officer, Ag. CP Emmanuel C. S. Ojukwu, described Obute as one of its most dedicated officers, disclosing that he died on March 20, 2015 after a brief illness.

AIG Wilfred Eje Obute until his death was the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Armament, Force Headquarters, Abuja.

Late Obute, who hailed from Ogbadibo Local Government Area of Benue State, was born on the May 27, 1956. He was enlisted into the Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police (Cadet ASP) on July 18, 1980 and had his initial training at the Nigeria Police College, Ikeja, Lagos. He held a Bachelor of Education degree in Zoology and had attended several professional courses both at home and abroad. He was an alumnus of the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) Kuru, Jos.

Described as a versatile and well travelled officer, late AIG Obute served as Commandant, Police College Kaduna, and in other different capacities in the Nigeria Police Force. “An accomplished police officer and a caring family man, he would be remembered by his colleagues and friends within and outside the Force as an excellent and patriotic officer who gave his best to the service of his fatherland,” Ojukwu said.
