Oyo State will develop only through fresh economic ideas —SDP gov candidate Makinde

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate of Oyo State, Engineer Seyi Makinde, has told the state government that it needs to develop fresh and new economic ideas that will make reliance on federal allocation outdated.

Makinde, who said the fall in the oil price in the international market, makes it imperative for the state to adopt fresh ideas to generate revenue, adding that the problems of unpaid salaries, pensions, gratuities and general under-development will be going from bad to worse.

Speaking during his ongoing electioneering tour of Ibadan North Local Government Area, he said, “I want to tell you that our economic salvation in the state lies in strategic thinking and a total departure from the past, which our party represents, having developed an economic blue-print for the overall development of the state”.

He also acknowledged the agony the government workers, as well as pensioners as a result of unpaid salaries, gratuities and pensions, saying such is the result of over-dependence on federal allocation.

The recent campaign tour took him and his team through Idi-Ape, Basorun, Ashi, Bodija, Agbowo, Orogun, Sango, Iso-Pako, Ijokodo, Oke-Tunu, Sabo, Mokola and Inalende.

“The economy of a state like ours can only be buoyant through regular payment of workers’ salaries and allowances. We have seen how dull the market is everywhere because of the situation of our workers,” Makinde told the enthusiastic crowd.
