The First Lady, Mrs Patience Jonathan, on Monday, campaigned in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, for the re-election of her husband, President Goodluck Jonathan, and urged the voters in the state to consider the need to return “a performing president rather than relying on promises.”
This is just as Governor Ayò Fayose of the state said at the campaign thatthe All Progressives Congress (APC) was a group of strange bedfellows, saying “their coming together is a conspiracy.”
Mrs Jonathan, who spoke while addressing a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) women’s presidential rally, said President Jonathan had created opportunities for the women, adding that it was time to encourage him with their votes “so that he can deliver more for the womenfolk and Nigerians.”
According to her, “President Jonathan is not running on promises but on things that he has achieved. He has instituted SURE-P, Conditional Cash Transfer Scheme; YouWin, GWin and many others and all these are not promises but things already done for Nigerians.”
The president’s wife said: “PDP is not a party that tells lies. Whatever we promise to do, we will do. We are not a propangandist party. If anyone is telling you change, they are deceiving you. These were people that when they were there before Goodluck Jonathan, they did not count you women as anything.”
She said the women shouldn’t “vote for a party that would not give you an identity. Vote for PDP.”
Fayose, while addressing the rally said: “We are selling two products: One is old, emaciated, retired and tired. They didn’t want him before but now, they want him because they want to use him. The other is young and energetic. We are for Goodluck.”
He assured Mrs Jonathan of the votes of Ekiti people.
Mrs Feyisetan Fayose, who also addressed the rally, said “Ekiti people are lovers of peace and we share in your commitment to peace for which you have come to be known as ‘Mama Peace.”
Earlier, Mrs Jonathan had visited the palace of the Ewi of Ado Ekiti, Oba Adeyemo Adejugbe, where his wife, Eyesorun Bosede Adejugbe, and over 100 wives of traditional rulers in the state received her.
