Anambra women group declares Umeh best choice for senate

The city of Awka was on Tuesday a beehive of activity as a group of women known as “Women of substance” from the central senatorial zone thronged Ojukwu park in Amawbia, Awka south local government area of Anambra State, where they endorsed the Senatorial Candidate of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Victor Umeh for the Senate.

The women, numbering about 28,000 and adorned colourful uniform with green head gear, declared their total support for Umeh, saying that he was the only one with the muscle to speak for the zone and bring home whatever was due to them.

According to the group, the decision to support his ambition was also based on their conviction that he would give the zone effective representation in the Senate for the entire Igbos.

Founder of the group, Mr. Sampson Umeh-Ejidike said they noted that Umeh had done well for Anambra and Ndigbo and, therefore, needed to go to the senate to speak for the people.

He reminded the women that the senate is where the best brains and serious–minded people were gathered, adding that it is not for those who can change post at any given opportunity.

While addressing the women, the wife of the state governor, Mrs. Ebelechukwu Obiano, commended them for their turning out en masse to throw their weight behind the APGA national chairman’s senatorial bid and their undying love for the APGA government in the state.

She noted that APGA was the party with the interest of the women as well as that of the youths at heart, adding that the state government would always work to ensure to provide good packages for women and youth.

She thanked them for endorsing Umeh, reminding them that the endorsement can only be complete if they vote massively for the APGA candidate during the election.

Mrs. Obiano stressed that APGA government in the state for almost nine years it has been in charge in the state has done marvellously with Obi’s regime and it is still powering to the top with more democracy dividends and security.

She promised that development of the state would continue at an unprecedented pace under the administration of her husband.

In his speech, Umeh expressed joy at the turn out of the women and assured them that their recognition and subsequent endorsement would never be in vain.

He assured them that he would represent the zone effectively and ensure they never lose out of anything due to them if voted to represent the zone at the upper chamber of the National Assembly.
