Top Nigerian celebrities cry out over murder of Omozuwa and Tina

Late Vera Omozuwa and Tina Ezekwe

Last week, two young ladies were murdered within two days in Nigeria.

While Tina Ezekwe, a 16-year-old girl was felled on the street of Lagos by bullets shot by a police officer, Vera Omozuwa, a 22 years old 100 level microbiology student was raped on Wednesday while she was reading inside the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) in Benin, capital of Edo State. She died in hospital bed on Saturday from injuries sustained from the rape.

Since then, there have been outcry and outpouring from various segments of the society in reaction to the two gruesome murders.

Maggie’s Blog captures reactions from some top Nigerian celebrities.

Falz (Musician/Actor):

It’s so exhausting to see injustice continue to thrive time after time. Every time we say NOT AGAIN, and then there is a new story. Enough is enough. It’s too disheartening. Justice must be served for the innocent souls we keep on losing. #JusticeForTina #JusticeForUwa

Genevieve Nnaji (Movie producer/actress):

They either abuse their power, or have the power to abuse. In or out of uniform, we live in constant fear of men. Tina Ezekwe. Vera Omozuwa. Rest In Peace my darlings. We will get justice.

Richard Mofe. Damijo (Veteran actor/politician):

I have written and deleted quite a bit in the past few days. I was devastated, broken and speechless when I heard about the death of TINA EZEKWU, the teenage girl senselessly gunned down in broad daylight, by trigger happy, blood hungry policemen, paid by you and I to protect us.

Tiwa Savage (Singer/performer):

#WeAreTired of senseless killings, lorries falling on road and killing passengers, ACs catching fire and burning houses, young girls getting raped, young boys killed by SARZ, no jobs for graduates, please add your own frustration because my list is long.

Uche Jombo (Movie producer/actress):

Only Rapists will be triggered with a tweet condemning RAPE.

Joeboy (Performing artiste):

Rape apologists are as guilty as rapists themselves. Say NO to this despicable act cos it’s just appalling to say the least. #JusticeForUwa

Funke Akindele (Film producer/actress):

Everything just tire me! The killings. The chaos and confusion. The corruption. The unemployment.

Just living in fear. Who knows what’s next? Who’s next?

Kanayo O. Kanayo (Veteran actor):

Law is nothing without sanctions. The prosecutions that don't happen deny us of our humanity.

When people are punished for the crime they commit, it serves as a deterrent to others. Rape of minors should be treated the same way crime against humanity is prosecuted.

Mercy Aigbe (Movie producer/actress):

Reading this makes me so sad and angry. This is completely heart wrenching. It's time to put an end to this babaric act called rape. Unleash an open flame on it. There should never be a time you fear for your safety just because you are a woman. I'm calling on all necessary authorities to make sure justice is served. The perpetrators of this evil act must be found and brought to book. Enough is enough!

Ini Edo (Actress)

I just cannot comprehend how evil and cold-hearted a human being can be towards a fellow already helpless human being. What could this girl have done to deserve this level of brutality and wickedness from a fellow human being? The hate, the bitterness, the anger is killing us. Even justice cannot repay this loss. R.I.P

Senator Dino Melaye (Politician/actor):

Law Enforcement Agencies must find perpetrators of Rape and Murder of 22 Year old Uwa Omozuwa that happened in a Church in Benin city. The Attorney General of the Federation, IGP and DG DSS must unravel tbe demons responsible or we take to the street. Enough is Enough. SDM

Tonto Dike (Actress)

Calling on all Lagos celebrities who stand for human rights and humanity to join in this movement of #Justice4Tina movement because Tina is our daughter, our sister and it could happen to you or yours. Let’s stand up for Tina. From my findings she was a 16 years old girl out to acquire her daily bread through the only trade she knew ( hawking).

AY (Comedian):

I'm in a state of unrest! I can't sleep! I can't stop thinking about Jennifer, the innocent 18 year old girl from Narayi Kaduna being overpowered and gang raped! Who will fight for her?

Who will fight for poor Uwaila Omozuwa who was just a 100 level student trying to study and stay afloat against all odds in a place she thought was a place of refuge only to be raped to death by a set of beasts! When would men stop raping women?

Who will fight for 16 year old Tina Ezekwe who was shot and killed by a trigger happy policeman?

I pray all these perpetrators are caught and made to pay for their crimes! Our government has failed us too many times.

#justiceforJennifer #JusticeforUwa #JusticeforTina

Don Jazzy (Music producer)

If you are a rapist and you see this, you should be ashamed of yourself and know that one day you will pay for your barbaric crimes. Rape apologists too and those that know a rapist and is protecting them. SHAME ON YOU. #saynotorape #JusticeforUwa #JusticeforTina #WeAreTired
