Governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido has admitted that he actually betrayed his fellow governors with whom he formed the G-7 governors under Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Governor Lamido stated this in Abuja, on Tuesday, while fielding questions from newsmen, after he emerged from a meeting with the National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP.

Kano State governor, Dr Musa Kwankwaso, had accused Lamido of betraying five other governors who defected to the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2013, following irreconcilable differences with President Goodluck Jonathan and the party leadership under former chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur.

Kwankwaso, who identified Lamido as the leader of the G7 governors, said the Jigawa State governor and his Niger State counterpart, Babangida Aliyu, were part of the move to leave the PDP, but failed to do so at the last hour for reasons best known to them.

When confronted over the accusation of the Kano State governor by newsmen, Lamido, who admitted he betrayed them was, however, evasive when asked to expatiate on reasons for his action.

According to him, “I am a betrayer, confirmed. I betrayed them. I did, yes. I am aligning myself to what he said. I am aligning my answer to what he said. Go and find out from him.”

Speaking on the recent exit of former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, from the PDP, Lamido said “you have a father and a son, you do not come between them. You do not go out in the open to insult your father. It is our business, so leave it. You are not his own son, he is our own father, so leave us alone please.”

On whether he is still consulting for subsequent defection, Lamido said “you see, sometimes you people have to listen to mischief. Amaechi and I are very good friends and colleagues, PDP or no PDP; as Nigerians. So if Amaechi comes to me, we have to look at issues pertaining to this country.”

On his part, PDP national publicity secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, said Governor Lamido’s visit was to iron out matters concerning the progress of the party, but refused to disclose the issues to the press when pressed further.
