As the spread of the deadly pandemic Coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to spread, a non-governmental organisation, the Incorporated Trustees of the Egalitarian Mission for Africa, has demanded for observance of due process and accountability from the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development in its distribution of stimulus packages to the indigent and vulnerable citizens in some targeted areas of the country.
News Express reports that in his address to the nation on March 29, 2020, President Muhammadu Buhari reeled out measures to be followed after the lockdown of Abuja, Lagos and Ogun states which was to commence by 11pm the following day. In his address, the President had ordered distribution of relief materials to residents of satellite towns and communities to ease their pains in the coming weeks.
In its letter to the Minister for Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development through its lawyer, Dr. Olukayode Ajulo, the group has urged the Minister to observe due diligence in ensuring successful disbursement of the stimulus packages to the affected citizens.
The group, in furtherance to the pursuance of its Freedom of Information Act demanded for information relating to the receipt or expenditure of the public funds (stimulus packages) disbursed by the ministry.
