A suspected armed robbery syndicate has been smashed by the Anambra State Police Command.

The gang of three were said to have allegedly waylaid and robbed one Uyana Ikechukwu of the sum of N45,000 and other valuables at gunpoint on March 31, 2020.

The suspects include 27-year-old Ikechukwu Ani, a native of Nkwelle, Awka, Ifeanyi Wisdom, aged 26-yr-old and 28-yr-old Daniel Obaru, residing at Emma Nnaemeka Street, Umudioka, Awka.

A statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Haruna Mohammed, reads in part: “On the 31/3/2020 at about 11:15pm, following complaints of incessant blockage of Isiagu road Awka, Puff-Adder operatives in conjunction with the Command Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) while acting on intelligence arrested the following suspects.

“Exhibits recovered in their possession include two motorcycles, one tricycle, machete, one locally made shotgun and cash sum of N45,000 snatched from the victim were recovered from the suspects.”

Mohammed said that suspects confessed to the crime adding that case is under investigation after which suspects would be charged to Court for prosecution.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police (CP) John B. Abang has reassured Anambra people that the Command under his watch will continue to make Anambra State unbearable to the criminal elements until they repent or relocate from the state.
