Boko Haram captive Leah Sharibu
Christian friends, schoolmates and even the pastor of abducted Christian school girl Leah Sharibu are believed to be among those who fled as terrorists reportedly launched a fresh assault on Government Girls Secondary School (GGSS) Dapchi, Borno State, over the weekend.
International human rights activist and lawyer Emmanuel Ogebe, who alerted on the attack, said it was regrettable that it took place during “the second anniversary of Leah’s abandonment in captivity by the government of Nigeria in March 2018.” Leah has spent over two years in Boo Haram captivity.
Ogebe, in an e-mail to News Express on Tuesday, noted: “Today marks 770 Days of Leah Sharibu’s abduction by terrorists in February 2018.”
According to Ogebe, “It is therefore disturbing that in view of a recent massacre that left scores of military personnel dead, the army has removed a valiant General who made a candid field report on flawed intelligence assessments and the need for reinforcement.
“Whereas a neighbouring nation retired their service chief after massive military casualties, Nigeria ousted a gallant General for requesting firepower for his forces.
“Nigeria needs to be serious about the war on terror as it cannot simultaneously survive dual combat with virulent terrorists and the corona virus.”
