Gov Willie Obiano
Ahead of a total lock down of Anambra State, authorities of both government and private hospitals in Onitsha have raised the alarm over the dearth of essential logistics to handle the coronavirus pandemic.
The Chief Medical Officer, of St Charles Borromeo Hospital Rev Fr.Dr Izunna Okonkwo said the government of Anambra State had not provided them with any logistics in readiness for any emergency.
Dr Okonkwo lamented that not even sanitizers or face masks have been given to the hospital which he described as the ‘biggest private hospital in West Africa.
“It is regrettable that what the Igbo’s are doing to themselves is more than what they suffer from marginalisation
“It is self-inflicted injury and the situation today is an ill wind that blows no one good,” he lamented.
Meanwhile efforts to speak to the management of government hospitals proved abortive.
A few days ago the Governor of the state, Chief Willie Obiano in a nationwide broadcast to the people directed Keke and bus operators to brace up to the challenges of the pandemic ravaging the global community.
He directed that henceforth Keke operators should carry only two passengers on board while three and four-sitter buses should carry two passengers on each row as the case may be. But contrary to the governor’s directives the operators of these commercial transport tricycles and buses have refused to adhere to them.(New Telegraph)
