Chief of Staff Abba Kyari
The Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, Alhaji Abba Kyari, has tested positive for the novel Coronavirus pandemic, according to reports coming in from Abuja, the nation’s capital, this Tuesday morning, March 24, 2020.
One of the reports, by Arise TV, said that President Buhari himself tested negative for the pandemic which has claimed two lives in Nigeria and over 15,000 globally.
Both men were tested for the COVID-19 virus by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Monday. NCDC briefed the President on the outcome of the test on Tuesday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
This comes two weeks after Kyari travelled to Germany to meet with officials of Siemens in Munich on Nigeria’s electricity expansion programme.
He was said to have returned on March 14, although he did not show any symptoms of being infected with the virus.
The President’s Chief of Staff, aged 81, reportedly submitted himself voluntarily for testing and is said to have gone into isolation since he allegedly tested positive. Three of his staff have also tested positive to Coronavirus.
Born on November 17, 1938, Abba Kyari is 81 years old. Coronavirus, which is presently on rampage around the world, is more difficult for people above 60 to cope with.
“Besides, the Chief of Staff also has diabetes, which further complicates his case,” an informed source told News Express, however quickly adding: “But then no one is God.”
