Vice Chancellor of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU), Prof Hilary Edeoga, has assured the newly admitted 4,000 students into the institution that the university would mould them into job and wealth creating graduates.
Edeoga gave the assurance yesterday during the 20th matriculation ceremony of the university held at the school’s Pavilion to mark the formal admission of the students into the institution.
Edeoga said academic programmes of the rebranded MOUAU have been structured to endow its students with skills that would make them to be self-employed and enjoined them to use the opportunity of their educational pursuit in the institution to lay solid foundation for their success in life.
“It is our belief that the education and training which you will receive in this university will equip you for the challenges inherent in the global society. Our curricula in the different course of studies are structured in such a way as to make you not only self-employable but also job and wealth creators on graduation,” the VC told the jubilant students.
He said the university management is prepared to create a conducive learning environment in the institution through provision of additional classrooms and hostel accommodations, adding that the school is acquiring state-of-the-art muliti-media accessories, interactive boards and improved internet access to ensure that academic trainings in MOUAU are ICT-driven.
Urging the students to adapt to their new learning environment, Edeoga warned them that all the rights and privileges conferred on them by the matriculation formalities would be withdrawn should they breach any of the university’s laws.
“Let me remind you that this university has zero tolerance for all forms of anti-social behaviours, examination malpractice, forgery of any kind, extortion, gangsterism, cultism, indecent dressing, etc,” he warned.
“You are advised in your own interest to keep to the oath you have sworn to today, as the university authorities would not hesitate to apply corresponding sanctions if you flout any of its rules,” the Vice Chancellor added.
