What could a politician be doing with fresh human heads? This is the question which Alhaji Saleh Abershi, a politician in Plateau State, North-Central Nigeria, must now answer.
A report this morning in ThisDay said that five fresh human heads were found in the residence of Abershi, a former Special Adviser to the immediate past Chairman of Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State and a representative of the Fulani ethnic group in Mangun ward of the troubled state. Plateau has contended with seasons of violence in the past few years, often involving the Fulani and the natives. One of such violent clashes was reported yesterday by News Express.
According to ThisDay, one version of the Abershi story is that he is a Boko Haram accomplice who was arrested by security agents following a tip-off “while another version has it that an arrest of a Boko Haram suspect who allegedly mentioned his name led to special agents from Abuja storming his residence where the human heads were found.”
“It was gathered that following a security tip off, over five Hilux vans conveyed security men all the way from Abuja to raid his residence. Saleh was subsequently arrested and whisked to Abuja,” the paper said.
“Another version said it was in the process of interrogating a Boko Haram sect suspect in Abuja that Saleh was mentioned as an accomplice leading to the deployment of the security personnel for his arrest,” ThisDay added.
Isah Shikben, incumbent Chairman of Mangu Local Government, confirmed the incident, describing it as revealing. He however urged residents to remain calm and allow security operatives do their jobs.
