The 14 Brigade Headquarters of the Nigerian Army, Ohafia, Abia State, has debunked allegation that its officers arrested 40 IPOB members on Friday at Ubakala junction, in Umuahia South Local Government Area of the state said to be going for burial of parents to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu.
The Commander of 14 Brigade, Brigadier General Solomon Kumapayi and the Brigade spokesman, Iliya Dauda couldn’t be reached for comments at the Tuesday time of this report but a source in the brigade who preferred anonymity denied such allegation.
But the military source said that it was police that made some arrests.
When contacted, the Commissioner of Police, Ene Okon denied arresting 40 persons.
Okon, however, said that they only arrested four persons with guns in Umuahia around the busy Okpara Square through the efforts of its officers on duty in the area.
The State Police Chief also said that there was nothing to identify the suspects as IPOB members, unless IPOB is claiming that they were their members. (The Nation)
