Okorocha assures NANS of government cooperation

Imo State governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, has assured the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) of his cooperation in their efforts to ensure a better learning environment for Nigerian students.
He gave the assurance when a delegation of the National Executive Council of NANS paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House, Owerri.

Okorocha described NANS as a formidable force to reckon with in the country and a factor of change but regretted that it has not harnessed its potentials due to leadership problems that have not allowed the organisation to live up to expectation.

The governor urged them to repackage the association so as to make the country a better place.
He thanked NANS for conferring on him life membership of the association and donated two buses to it.

Speaking earlier, the Chairman of NANS’ 27th Inaugural Committee, Mr. Daniel Onjeh, described Okorocha as a humble man who is exceptional in whatever he lays his hands on. He appreciated the governor for the donation of an official vehicle to the association after its 2007 election.

Mr. Onjeh said the visit was aimed at enhancing the relationship already existing between the governor and the association. He said that NANS is interested in partnering with leaders whose life is impacting positively on the less privileged, pointing out that NANS is impressed with the free education programme of the governor.

Onjeh said it was based on Okorocha’s credible performance that the association has decided to honor him with a life membership award on February 14 at the International Conference Centre, Abuja. He disclosed that only President Goodluck Jonathan and Governor Okorocha would be honoured at the occasion.

Speaking also, the NANS President Yinka Gbadebo said that the association is interested in Governor Okorocha due to his performance in office and his philanthropic gestures. He assured the governor of the support of the students.
