Almost six years after, a sizeable number of the Chibok schoolgirls abducted from a school in Borno State have been sighted at the Sambisa forest, according to a report this morning of Wednesday, February 5, 2020.

The report, by the authoritative Abuja-based Daily Trust, said the girls were sighted recently in the expansive forest which serves as headquarters and stronghold of Boko Haram insurgents.

The paper also quoted unnamed sources as disclosing that the abductors of the Chibok schoolgirls are “ready for negotiation.”

This is the second time in 15 months that some of the abducted girls were reportedly sighted.

Media reports in late 2018 had quoted one of the parents of the abducted girls, Yakubu Nkenke, as saying that 57 of them were sighted in Cameroon but the spokesperson of parents of the abducted girls, Ayuba Alamson, told reporters in Maiduguri that the young lady who escaped from Boko Haram captivity claimed to have stayed with only six girls in the forest.

He identified the lady as Jummai Abouku, saying that she escaped from the Haram insurgents and was released recently by the military to her family after profiling and screening.

About 276 girls were abducted from their dormitories at Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok, but several of them were later released following a deal with the Nigerian Government while a few others escaped.
