Governor Obiano
Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, has announced his government’s readiness to commence payment of the new N30,000 minimum wage starting from January 26, 2020.
He made the declaration while inspecting the 5.3km Eziowelle-Umunnachi-1Afor Igwe roads.
According to him, the new minimum wage implementation will improve the socio-economic status of the state and boost the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).
“The economic importance of the implementation of the new minimum wage as well as the improved welfare of workers is top priority of my administration,” Obiano said.
While inspecting the Eziowelle-Umunnachi-Afor Igwe roads, currently under construction, the governor revealed that some structures would be affected in the course of executing the job.
He stressed that traffic congestion which occurs on the old road during festive seasons would be reduced when the construction is completed.
Governor Obiano reiterated his administration’s commitment to continue to link up communities in the state through road construction even as he enjoined people of the area to support the contractors.
The contractor handling the project, Mr. Daniel Ekene, said that they have commenced with demolition of the existing drainage system, which he explained causes flooding in the area.
He noted that they had already done 1.5km of drainage even as he gave assurance that the project would be completed by May this year.
