Aftermath of the jungle justice
The Bayelsa Police Command, on Thursday, warned residents to refrain from taking the laws into their hands during crime incidents, adding that anyone arrested will be prosecuted.
The warning is coming on the heels of the mob action, earlier in the day, against two armed robbery suspects ‘caught in the act’ on Green Villa Road, Biogbolo area of Yenagoa.
It was learnt that residents and sympathisers who responded to distress calls for help from an operators of a Point of Sales (PoS) terminal cash operator apprehended the two armed robbers and disarmed them and beat them to death.
The irate mob took the remains of the two robbers into the Lexus car in which they operated with and set it ablaze and watched it burn to ashes before the arrival of the police.
Mr Asinim Butswat, a Superintendent of Police and Spokesman of the Bayelsa Police Command, in reaction to the incident, said the act was condemnable, adding that the Command had commenced investigations.
“Bayelsa State Police Command has condemned the mob action which led to the death of two yet to be identified Male adults at Biogbolo, Yenagoa.
“The Commissioner of Police (CP) Uche Anozia has orderedinvestigation and those responsible for the act will be arrested and prosecuted,” Butswat said.
