Property worth millions of Naira were destroyed, on Friday, when the female storey building hostel belonging to Loretto Special School of Science, Adazi Nnukwu, Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State, were gutted by fire.
This makes it second in a row that a school hostel is gutted by fire in less than a month in the state.
The first one which happened in Patterson Memorial Grammar School, Onitsha, took the life of an 11-year-old JSS 1 student of the school and destroyed property worth millions of Naira.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Haruna Mohammed, said yesterday: “On 17/01/ 2020 at about 7:30pm, there was a fire incident at Loretto Special School of Science Adazi Nnukwu in Anaocha L.G.A of Anambra State.
“The fire incident occurred upstairs of Red House Hostel/Dormitory within the premises of the school compound.
“As a result, many properties were damaged by the inferno.
“Following the distress call, Police patrol team led by DPO Neni Division SP Asadu Uchechukwu rushed to the scene and alerted Fire Service department who equally responded and put off the fire.
“The area was cordoned off by the Police to prevent hoodlums from taking advantage of the situation to loot.
“While saying that no life was lost in the inferno and no injury sustained, he added that the cause of the fire and value of property destroyed is yet to be ascertained.
Mohammed said the Commissioner of Police, John Abang has ordered for a discreet investigation to ascertain the circumstances that led to the inferno.
