Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has described the “Never Again!” Conference to mark the 50th anniversary of the Biafra War as “a noble effort” and expressed regrets over is inability to grace the event.

He explained in a letter dated January 6, 2020 addressed to Nzuko Umunna Secretary, Pasohal Mbanefo that the event clashed with another engagement outside Nigeria to which he was already committed.

Obasanjo wrote in the letter, a copy of which was sighted by News Express: “My most sincere thanks for the invitation to attend the Never Again Lecture holding on January 13, 2020 in Lagos.

“This is a noble effort on your part and that of the Igbo think-tank group comprising of Igbo professionals both at home and in the diaspora, which must be highly commended. It is with regret, however, that I would not be able to join you and others at the Conference as it clashes with a previously-scheduled event outside the country. I wish you a successful deliberation.

“Accept assurances of my highest consideration.”

News Express reports that the conference, held last Monday at Muson Centre Lagos, enjoyed huge success as it attracted a full house and dominated the news media for much of the week.
