APC National Leader, Asiwaju Tinubu
Following the raging controversy over security architecture, Amotekun, recently launched by the Governors of the South West geo-political zone,a rights group, the Save Lagos Group (SLG), has challenged the national leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to let the good people of Yoruba nation know his position on the formation of the security network.
Tinubu, the group said, could not be claiming to be one of Yoruba leaders and sit on the fence over this germane issue of national importance.
Challenging Senator Bola Tinubu in a signed statement in Lagos on Friday by its Convener, Comrade Adeniyi Alimi Sulaiman, the group insisted that Tinubu could not be claiming to be Asiwaju of Lagos in Yorubalandwithout making his position known on the subject matter.
Sulaiman who gave Senator Bola Tinubu 24 hours to make his position known to the people of Yorubaland as true son of the race, declared that supporting the legitimate security architecture could not erode him of becoming the nation's President as being claimed in some Northerner quarters, particularly the Maiyetti Allah.
He added that if God destined Bola Tinubu to be the President of this country in 2023 and not by fraudulent means, no human being could change the divine position.
It will be recalled that on Tuesday this week, theFederal Government declared the security initiative of the South West governors illegal by threatening that the full force of the law would be applied against anybody promoting the security initiative.
Sulaiman who further stated that the Yoruba nation was presently in trying period over the formation of the security outfit in the Nigeria Federal Constitutional democracy also said that no leader of Yoruba nation as well its lovers could keep mute on the burning matter at this period. He added that Yoruba leaders should unite to speak in one voice on the issue.
He saluted the courage of the South-West Governors in launching the security outfit with the aim of safe-guiding the region and complementing the existing federal security apparatus in the region and effort of the Federal Government on security matter.
Sulaiman commended the Yoruba leaders and groups, including Afenifere, Southern and Middle-Belt organizations, Mr. Femi Falana, Baba Ayo Adebanjo, Baba Reuben Fasoranti, Prof Woke Soyinka, Aare Gani Adam, Baba Olu Falae and others thathad spoken in support of the creation of Amotekun.
The human rights campaigner described the formation of the security outfit as welcome development and good thing to happen to Yoruba nation at this time and urged the Southwest Governors to ensure that this lofty idea of complementing the effort of the Federal Government in curbing the security problems facing the region vis a vis the country, was not died prematurely.
While commenting further on the Northern group's position that the formation of Amotekun could cost Yoruba people thecountry's Presidency in 2023 which they have used to create fear in the mind of Senator Bola Tinubu and few other Yoruba leaders who were interested to put themselves forward for the plum job in the next dispensation, the rights group told the Northern elements to stop playing God, explaining that only God chooses leaders not ordinary mortals.
