A security team from the Anambra State Ministry of Women Affairs has rescued two pregnant mentally challenged women in Awka and the commercial of Onitsha.
It was learnt that the one rescued in Onitsha put to bed shortly after she was rescued through the assistance of spirited individuals. She gave birth to a white baby boy.
According to a source from the Ministry, the woman's rescue was necesitated by a distress call from a concerned citizen to the State Commissioner for Women and Children Affairs, Lady Ndidi Mezue, on spotting the woman in Onitsha.
"Anambra State Ministry of Women Affairs, through the assistance of spirited individuals rescued a heavily pregnant mentally challenged woman at Onitsha, who few hours after her rescue gave birth to a bouncing baby boy.
“On receiving the call, the Commissioner swung into action and immediately sought the assistance of the Women Development Officer (WDO) of Onitsha North local government area.
"The officer together with a nurse rushed the woman to Onitsha General Hospital where she was delivered of a bouncing baby boy," the source said.
She said that the Commissioner has directed the relocation of the one picked im Awka to a government facility where she would be cared for till she delivers.
