Benue State Police Command has confirmed that 10 suspected herdsmen have been arrested in Agatu Local Government for allegedly contravening the Anti-open Grazing Prohibition Law.

Police spokesperson Kae Anene Sewuese, who confirmed the arrest, said the suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal and Investigation Department (SCID) in Makurdi.

The herdsmen allegedly destroyed a rice farm with their cattle at Agatu community.

Investigation showed that the rice was yet to be harvested and the cattle destroyed many heaters of unharvested rice before the Chairman of the local government, Usman Alilu, mobilised security men and arrested the herders.

It was not clear if the cattle were also nabbed. (The Nation)
