IGP Mohammed Adamu
Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Mohammed Adamu has concluded arrangements to kick-start a full-scale anti-cultism advocacy and sensitisation campaign in the 36 states of the country, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
SP Ebere Amaraizu, National Coordinator of Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), disclosed this in a statement issued to newsmen in Enugu today, Sunday, January 5, 2020.
“POCACOV, the initiative of I-G Adamu, will be launched and to be deployed nationally by the I-G himself on Feb. 27 in an epoch-making event that would take place at the International Conference Centre, FCT, Abuja,” he said.
According to him, the event will witness the bringing together of broad spectrum of stakeholders.
“This is with a view to raising awareness and galvanizing
stakeholders support to reduce the menace and incidences of cultism, substance abuse, associated violence and other vices in our communities in line with community-oriented policing tenets,” he said.
Amaraizu further hinted that POCACOV is having strong collaboration with Matchmakers Consult headed by Shina Philips for a smooth and effective event.
News Express recalls that POCACOV was flagged-off nationally on August 29, 2919 in Enugu by the I-G. Since then, the programme has attracted positive response from members of the public, who have embraced it due to its community-driven and community-oriented approach.
The programme is aimed at sensitising different stakeholders on the dangers of cultism, its associated vices, among others.
