PDP chieftain Oseloka Obaze
Former governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic
Party (PDP) in Anambra State, Mr Oseloka Obaze, has called on Nigerians to
continue to speak up against any form of injustice, impunity and governmental
overreach while reflecting on the underpinning values of nationalism which, he
noted, are being torn apart gradually.
Obaze, who made the call in Awka, the state capital,
regretted that the All Progressives Congress (APC) government at the centre
“has continued to exhibit the inability to be accommodating and to foster
confidence building measures required in a just and egalitarian society.”
He accused the Federal Government of aversion to the rule of
law by undermining the very constitutional principles and values that promote
good governance and democracy.
The former United Nations diplomat said: “2019 was an
extremely difficult and challenging year for Nigerians. No nation can enjoy peace
when her component parts are distressed and her people suffer deprivation.
“That is the present day reality for our country. As 2019
comes to a close and we look forward to 2020, Nationhood is about inclusivity
that elicits patriotism and loyalty.
“Nigerians are being denied the true values of democracy.
Such leadership hubris need to change.
“As things stand, the workings of governance mechanisms in
the three tiers, mimic an operational model with systemic redundancy and
intentional design deficiency. This should not be the case in our nation. The
state of the nation calls for greater resiliency.
“2020 is the year for Nigerians to reflect deeply on the
state and wellbeing of the nation and begin to forge the national consensus
required for keeping the country whole, by restructuring and thus averting any
form of crisis that might prove inimical to our national security.”
