According to an eye witness, who pleaded anonymity, the crisis, which has continued to rage since Wednesday, has disrupted traffic flow along the every busy Calabar/Itu road, with commuters unable to get to their destinations.
The cause of the current crisis is yet to be ascertained, but it was learnt that some elements in Oku Iboku in Akwa Ibom had taken on their Ikot Offiong brothers in Cross River, where the inspector was shot dead.
The eyewitness said: “Some of the people, who laid ambush, attacked a police inspector. The inspector was shot dead and his AK47 rifle taken away.”
The new Commissioner of Police in Cross River, Mr Nkereuwem A. Akpan, who confirmed the killing of the Inspector, lamented the incessant crisis between the two communities, disclosing that a team of policemen had been deployed to the affected areas.
