Ahead of the November 27, 2019 date for the Anambra Media Excellence Award, AMEA 2019, unparalleled excitement hangs in the air as Anambra State plays host to media bigwigs, celebrities and political dignitaries from across Nigeria, who will be converging on Awka for the event.
Although in its maiden edition, AMEA is already being adjudged as the biggest media event in the South-East region due to the enthusiasm it is eliciting amongst Nigerian media practitioners, owing to its unique attributes which are anchored around recognition, empowerment and advocacy.
AMEA, organised by the Association of Digital Media Core Advocates (ADMCA), a pan-Nigeria media ethics advocacy group, is scheduled to hold at Best Western Meloch Hotel, Awka after a month-long voting process that will lead to the emergence of winners on various categories of media excellence. In addition to the winners who would be celebrated, the forum will also feature ‘Crisis Communication Conference’ as well as a lecture titled, ‘Impact of Social Media on Anambra Politics’ to be delivered by High Chief Maja Umeh, a former Commissioner for Information in Anambra State.
Speaking to newsmen on the state of preparedness, ADMCA National President, Ogbuefi Comr. Harris Chuma, said everything was ready for the event and that he was optimistic that the platform would further entrench media responsibility in Anambra State and beyond in the face of the changing media landscape. “I am overwhelmed by the degree of enthusiasm shown by members of the media towards the event. The media plays a significant role in the democratic process and incidentally they are the least recognised. That is why we at ADMCA strongly intend to use this platform to honour them, while pushing our narrative of ethics and responsibility in all forms of media practice-digital, social and traditional. Committees were set up to handle the various aspects of the event and the feelers we are getting are positive; so AMEA 2019 will berth amidst fanfare, networking, empowerment and advocacy on November 27 at 4pm,” he said.
